「プリマドンナ」は、グラミー賞受賞作曲家＆ピアニスト、フェルナンド・オテロによる新しいスタジオ・アルバムです。2014年にサウンドブラッシュ・レコードからリリースされました。

アルゼンチン出身の音楽家であるオテロは、クラッシック音楽の訓練を受けた名ピアニストとして多くの音楽評論家に評されていると同時に、タンゴ音楽を出発点としながらクラシック現代音楽と即興的ジャズの要素を加えた独自のスタイルを生み出した作曲家としても、高く評価されています。 このアルバム「プリマドンナ」では、オテロはワーナーミュージックのデビューアルバム「パヒナ・デ・ブエノス・アイレス」においても既に明示していた現代クラシック音楽の要素をさらに高めました。オテロは故郷ブエノス・アイレスの音楽を、ダンスの形式というよりもむしろモダニズムの芸術的好奇心という観点から刻み出します。「プリマドンナ」はオテロの母であり音楽家としての師でもあったエルザ・マーバルの芸術的キャリアに対する、オテロからの賛辞です。エルザ・マーバルは、2010年に亡くなった国際的にも高い評価を得ていたオペラ歌手、作曲家、ピアニスト、女優でした。オテロはニューヨークを拠点に、パキート・デリベラ、クロノス・カルテット、エディ・ゴメス、クインシー・ジョーンズなど、様々なコラボレーターを見つけました。 「プリマドンナ」に含まれているピアノソロ作品では、オテロの歌うような旋律性や表現性、ピアノの幅広い音色使いを聞くことができます。また、テンポの速い作品では、オテロはピストンのような正確さをもって音を反復するかと思うと、突然そこから白昼夢のようなパステル調の色彩へといざなうことによって、鮮烈なリズムを描き出します。アルゼンチンの巨匠アンヘル・ビジョルドによる傑作「エル・ポルテニート」の演奏では、オテロはこの著名な作品を通して自身の想像力を解き放ちます。 このアルバムには、オーケストラや室内楽の作品に加えて、オテロがニック・ダニエルソンのために作曲した、バイオリン技術の全てを網羅する一楽章のバイオリン・ソナタも含まれています。 アルバム最後の作品は、オテロがアレンジを加えたクインシー・ジョーンズの「ポーンブローカー」です。クインシー・ジョーンズの見事な旋律的美しさと、オテロのオーケストラ技術とピアノ演奏を掛け合わせたアレンジは、このコレクションを締めくくるのに相応しいものとなっています。このアルバムはルーベン・パラがプロデュースし、ニューヨークとロサンゼルスでレコーディングされました。「プリマドンナ」は、オテロの新しい作品集であるというだけではなく、様々な作品の再発見と賛美であるという意味でも、大変特別なアルバムです。 Otero has written music for orchestra, chamber ensembles, string quartet, choir, and solo instruments as piano, violin and cello, being many of his compositions commissioned and premiered by performers like the Kronos Quartet , with the premiere of "The Cherry Tree"in Carnegie Hall in February 2008- and the Imani Winds ensemble. Eddie Gomez in 2005 introduced Otero as one of the pianists of the new generation; flautist Dave Valentin, the Arturo O'Farrill Jazz Orchestra, and was featured in the Grammy Award-winning album Funk Tango by reed maestro Paquito D'Rivera."Mr. Otero's writing vibrantly summoned tango ancestors while also acknowledging Bartok and Prokofiev. His brilliant playing bore traces of jazz pianists like Bill Evans and Don Pullen. His most indelible influences included Igor Stravinsky , Béla Bartók and Bill Evans , plus those who also incorporated folklore into their music, South American icons like fellow Argentine Astor Piazzolla, Brazilian composers Egberto Gismonti and Hermeto Pascoal, and Hugo Fattoruso of Uruguay. Musicians like Keith Jarret, Jan Garbarek, Pat Metheny, Lyle Mays,Joe Zawinul and Ralph Towner were also relevant in Otero's musical education. ..."
